悼

パンテラ／ヘルイェーのドラマー、ヴィニー・ポールの訃報はハード・ロック／ヘヴィ・メタル・シーンに大きな衝撃を与え、多くのミュージシャンから追悼の言葉が上がった。彼がどれだけ愛されていたか、あらためて実感させられる内容ばかりだ。

パンテラの元バンド・メイト、フィル・アンセルモは、言葉はなかったものの、灯された1本のロウソクの画像をインスタグラムに投稿。レックス・ブラウンは「この数日はとても辛く、痛みをともなうものだった。自分の感情を整理するのにもっと時間が必要だ。みんな、愛をありがとう。正式な声明は改めて出す。Rest in peace、ブラザー・ヴィニー！」とのメッセージをFacebookに掲載した。

フー・ファイターズは「ヴィニー…いつだって最高にかっこいいキックとヴァイブを持っていた男へ。あなたは、音楽だけでなく愛やもてなしの心でも僕ら全員にインスピレーションを与えた。あなたは1億に1人の存在だった。寂しくなる…」と、メタリカのラーズ・ウルリッヒは「楽しい時間をありがとう。ヴィニー…、あなたの素晴らしく親切なもてなしと温かいヴァイブは伝染しやすくインスピレーションになっていた」、スラッシュは「彼は僕が知る最も温かい人達の1人だった。本当にいい＆楽しい友人。君が考えていた以上に、僕らは寂しい思いをすることになる」、ダフ・マッケイガンは「RIPヴィニー・ポール。友人。ユーモアに溢れた人。ものすごいドラマー。全ての面でいい人」、コーンのブライアン・ウェルチは「ヴィニー・ポールは間違いなく、俺が出会った中で最高に優しいレジェンドだった。彼はものすごい悲劇に見舞われたが、それ以上に愛と前向きな気持ちを持っていた。寛大で優しい心の持ち主だった」と追悼の言葉を寄せた。

このほか、サミー・ヘイガー、アヴェンジド・セヴンフォールド、ザック・ワイルド、ラム・オブ・ゴッド、ジェイソン・ボーナム、ポイズン、マシーン・ヘッド、マイク・ポートノイらから追悼の言葉が上がった。

Vinnie has been at nearly every birthday bash in Cabo from the beginning. I was at the cantina in Cabo late last night when I got the news. It sure is hard to believe. Great drummer, great guy and a great friend. Very sad.
