元パンテラのドラマー、ヴィニー・ポ
ール、急逝

元パンテラ／現ヘルイェーのドラマー、ヴィニー・ポールが金曜日（6月22日）亡くなった。現時点で、死因は明かされていない。54歳だった。

本人およびパンテラのFacebookに以下のような声明が出された。「ヴィニー・ポールことヴィンセント・ポール・アボットが亡くなりました。ポールは、パンテラ、ヘルイェーのドラマーとして最もよく知られてきました。現在のところ、これ以上の詳細は明らかにされていません。家族はこの時期、プライバシーを尊重してくださるよう望んでいます」

『Las Vegas Review-Journal』は、ポールは自宅がある米ラスベガスで亡くなったと伝えている。

ポールは1981年、弟ダイムバッグ・ダレルと共にパンテラを結成。1994年に発表した7枚目のスタジオ・アルバム『Far Beyond Driven』が全米1位に輝くなど成功したが、バンドは2003年に解散。兄弟はその後、ダメージプランとして活動していたが、2004年、公演中に銃撃され、ダレルが死亡するという悲惨な事件が起きた。

立ち直れないほど大きな衝撃を受けていると心配されたポールだったが、2年後、新バンド、ヘルイェーを結成し、音楽活動を再開した。

メガデスのデイヴ・ムステインは「またもやメタル・ヒーローの早過ぎる死。ダリルによろしく言ってくれ。安らかに、俺の大事な友よ」とツイート。キッスのポール・スタンレー、アンスラックスからも追悼の言葉が上がっている。
