    巨漢ヴォーカリスト兼俳優のミート・ローフ。欧米では大スターの彼も、暑苦しいまでのルックスが災いしてか、ここ日本では全くと言っていいほど人気がない。
    彼の代表作といえば、全世界で1000万枚以上を売り上げたデビュー・アルバム『Bat Out of Hell（地獄のロック・ライダー）』だ。不遇を囲っていたミート・ローフとミュージカル制作などを手掛けていたジム・スタインマンの運命的な出会いによって結実したこの作品は、悶々とした思春期を表現したロック・オペラで、力強くも劇的なサウンドが展開される。
    しかし登場の仕方が余りに鮮烈すぎたのか、その後の活動はパッとせず、人気は下降線を辿っていくことに……。が、93年に再びジム・スタインマンと組んだ１stの続編『Bat Out of Hell II：Back into Hell』を発表したところ大きな反響を呼び、再びシーンに浮上。その地位を不動のものとした。
    また俳優としては、デビューする前は『ロッキー・ホラー・ショウ』、近年では『ファイトクラブ』にも出演している。
