Uncle Tupeloアンクル・テュペロ
イリノイ州ベレヴィル出身の３人組。90年にデビュー・アルバムを発表。古いゴスペル・ナンバーから名前をとったバンドは、アルバム『ノー・ディプレッション』によってまったく新しいカントリーのジャンルを築き上げた。アンクル・テュペロ以前にカントリー・ミュージックの改革を試みたバンドは多数いたが、彼らのようにカントリーの情緒あふれるサウンドと大胆なパンクの融合に成功したバンドは皆無。おさな馴染みのジェイ・ファーラーとジェフ・トゥイーディーによって結成されたアンクル・テュペロは89年に＜ロックヴィル＞レーベルと契約、５年後の解散までに４枚のアルバムを発表した。その二面性のあるサウンドはグループ解散後に、ファーラーが結成したアンクル・テュペロのアダルト・オルタナティヴ版ともいえるサン・ヴォルトと、トゥイーディー率いるポップ寄りのウィルコに引き継がれている。
