この手のジャンルでは、異色の黒人ギタリスト、トニー・マカパイン。彼の登場がイングヴェイ・マルムスティーンを時代遅れにしたと噂されるほど、そのギター・プレイは凄まじかった……というか速かった。しかし決してテクニックには溺れず、常に流麗なメロディを心がける辺りが魅力。作品もインストゥルメンタル中心のため、ヒット・チャートを駆け上がるようなことはないが、ネオ・クラシカル一派の最右翼として根強い人気を誇っている。現在はフュージョン寄りのサウンドにアプローチしているようだ。
