    アメリカが誇る最高のアンダーグラウンド・バンド、フレイミン・グルーヴィーズ。彼らはヒッピー志向がもっとも強かった時代にロックに徹した、とてもタイミングの悪いバンドだった。他のバンドが解散、またはクスリでのぼせ上がっている時に、フレイミン・グルーヴィーズは道を踏み外さず、後世に影響を及ぼす力強いロックンロールを発表した。エピック・レコードから首を賭けてリリースした68年のアルバム『スーパースナッツ』は時代と合わなかったため商業的に失敗、レーベルから切られたグルーヴィーズは70年代を自力で乗り切る羽目になる。それ以降発表した音楽は獰猛で独創的、そして常にシーンから10年前後ずれていた。熱心なファンは70年代前半のフロントマンロイ・ロニー版のグルーヴィーズと、後半のクリス・ウィルソン版を対抗させ、さらに創立者シリル・ジョーダンがフロントマンだった頃とも比較。だが、アルバム『ティーンエイジ・ヘッド』の燃えるエネルギーや、『シェイク・サム・アクション』のフォーク・ロックを聴けば、そんな評価も気にする必要がなくなる。
