    The Dukes of Stratosphearザ・デュークス・オブ・ストラスフィアー

    ひねくれポップ集団XTCの変名ユニット。60年代ガレージ〜サイケデリック・ロックへのオマージュ、というかパロディを演じる作風で、80年代にミニ・アルバムとフル・アルバムを各１枚ずつリリースしている。どちらの作品にも、サイケ期のビートルズやシド・バレット時代のピンク・フロイド、エレクトリック・プルーンズやチョコレート・ウォッチ・バンドに代表される米国ガレージ勢などの要素を楽曲をちりばめ、マニアックな音楽ファンぶりを発揮。カヴァー・ソングは一切ないが、まるで「曲の元ネタを当ててごらん」とでもいわんばかりの細部に渡る遊びが、いかにもこの人たちらしい。アンディ・パートリッジは後に、このユニットについて「ヴィニール・ジャンキーのためのトリビュート・アルバム」と語ったという。納得。
