    ザ・ドラマティックスはウォーターゲート事件の頃に活躍したソウル・ヴォーカル・グループだ。彼らが当時所属していたスタックス・レコードは、レーベルのトレードマークだった荒削りなサウンドの人気が薄れると、この粋なR＆Bグループを前面に押し出し、生き残りを果たした。ザ・ドラマティックスは「ホワッチャ・シー・イズ・ホワッチャ・ゲット」をはじめとするヒット曲の数々でチャートのトップを独占したが、そのヒットもレーガン政権の誕生と共に途絶えてしまった。彼らのサウンドは洗練されており、コカインまみれの80年代にはもったいなすぎる存在だったのだ。
