    THE FOUR FRESHMENザ・フォー・フレッシュメン

    モダン・ジャズ・コーラスの開祖であり、その影響はビーチ・ボーイズをはじめロック／フォーク／ポップ・フィールドにも及んだという偉大なる４人組グループ。
    その功績は、それまでの王道であったスキャットなどを一切廃し、オープン・ハーモニーとユニゾンを積極的に用いてジャズ・コーラスのモダン化を図ったこと。またメンバー全員が楽器を演奏できるのも特徴で、後のロック・グループの形態と酷似している点も興味深い。
    ハイライトは50年代で、この期間に数多くのアルバムを制作。なかにはオーケストラやコンボをバックに吹き込んだ作品もあるが、基本的にどのアルバムでも彼らのエレガントなコーラス・ワークが堪能できるだろう。
