    Styles of Beyondスタイルズ・オブ・ビヨンド

    US西海岸でアンダーグラウンド然とした活動を続ける、SOBことスタイルズ・オブ・ビヨンド。その98年のデビュー・アルバム『2000フォールド』は、骨太さとスペイシーさを絶妙な匙加減で融合させたような仕上がりの快作だった。そのさまはありし日（ってまだ解散してないか？）のデヴァイン・スタイラーを彷彿させる……いや、その音像と叩き出されるグルーヴが放つ芳香はLAアングラ界の重鎮ヴィジョナリーズに近い印象だ。が、02年初頭にティームは解散。リリース間近と目されていた２nd『メガデフ』はお蔵入りに……。
    というのは冗談で、すぐさまティームは再結成。03年には『メガデフ』をキッチリと発表した。そんなSOBが、セルフ・タイトルド率いる東海岸のクルー＝デミゴッズに加盟したという。また一方で、04年頃にはメジャー・レーベルとの契約を果たしたという噂も……。とにかく、ラップ・デュオ＝スタイルズ・オブ・ビヨンドの動向に注目だ（05年にはDJ RYOW a.k.a. smooth currentとのコラボでも話題になりましたね）。
