    ロドニー・クロウェルは80年代中頃のニュー・トラディショナル・カントリーの立て役者の1人として名前をあげることができる。音楽は占い棒（鉱脈を探り当てる棒）のごとく、彼をタウンズ・ヴァン・ザントとガイ・クラークに引き合わせた。75年、クロウェルがエミルー・ハリスのホット・バンドにギタリスト兼ソングライターとして加入する以前のことである。「Ain't Livin' Like This」や「Till I Gain Control Again」など数え切れないアメリカを代表する曲を書いた。77年、ロドニー・クロウェルはホット・バンドを脱退し、チェリー・ボムズを結成。その後、彼は自分自身や数多くのカントリー・ミュージシャンに曲を書いた。まるで魔法の手のごとく、彼が書く曲は次から次へとトップ10入りを果たしていった。彼のかすかな悲しみの宿るメロディには、思わずゾクっとするほどの情感と激しさにあふれている。逆にアップテンポなロカビリィ調の曲は、かつての髪をポマードでテカらせた若者たちが聴いたなら、ジュークボックスのあるダイナーで踊り狂っていたはずだ。
