    ジェリー・リー・ルイスと従兄弟同士のギリーはルイスの後を追うように音楽の道に進みカントリー/ソウル/ロックン・ロール/ブルーズ/R&Bを融合した。そしてギリーがカントリー・ミュージックで成功を収めるのは70代以降のことである。74年のヒット曲「ルーム・フル・オブ・ロージーズ」がチャートを登る直前、カリフォルニア州パサディナにギリーズ・クラブの１号店を開店。数年後カントリー界で本格的なスーパースターの座に付き、 アーバン・カウボーイ（都会のカウボーイ） ブームに乗り、78年に映画「アーバン・カウボーイ」が公開されるとギリーの音楽とそのクラブは全国的に注目された。しかし、彼の音楽やラジオでのヒット曲はアップ・テンポのロック風ビートにホンキー・トンクの匂いを漂わせたもので、プロダクションそのものは熱烈なカントリー好きには、洗練され人工的過ぎたため、その流行が過ぎ去るのは時間の問題だった。
