    John Faheyジョン・フェイヒー

    あらゆる意味での音楽革新者であるジョン・フェイヒーは、60年代後期、スティール弦を使ったフィンガー・ピッキングによる演奏を録音し、彼自身が経営するレーベル＜Takoma label＞より作品を発表した。ジャンル的にはミュージック・コンクリートとブルー・グラスの中間——といった印象で、彼は当時のヒッピー・ポップや攻撃的なフォーク・シンガーには共感できなかったようだ。また、活動の初期からいろいろな音を集めたコラージュや不協和音を用いているが、昔のアコースティック・ブルースで歌われていたような恐れ／怒りを陽気なギターフレーズに乗せて表現したあたりが、特異な魅力といえるのではないか。
    本人は自身の初期作品を「自己満足的であった」と評しているが、それら一連の作品は現在“実験的ロック”としてカテゴライズされ、近年ではジム・オルーク周辺からも再評価を受けていた。また、そのクラシカルな構成にノイズの要素を絡ませたプレイには、世代を問わずコアなファンが多い。
    この伝説的ギタリスト、ジョン・フェイヒーは01年２月22日、61歳でこの世を去った。心臓バイパス手術が直接の原因と考えられているようだ。
