ネクストやジャネイなどの上質R＆Bアーティストたちを手がけてきた、元ノーティ・バイ・ネイチャーのケイ・ジー。彼が発掘した期待の新人、それがジャヒームだ。イナカ臭いマッチョ・ラッパー的風貌ではあるが（失敬）、「新世紀のテディ・ペンダーグラス」という触れ書き通りのステキな熱唱を聴かせてくれる。骨太さとシルキーな感覚を持ち合わせた彼のヴォーカル・スタイルは、非常に味わい深いモノだ。甘美なスロウ・チューンと絡んだ時にはすこぶるエロイ雰囲気を醸し出し、ヒップホップ・オリエンテッドなミッド・チューンでは男臭さを放出、という感じ。新たなセックス・シンボルの誕生を予感させた。デビュー・アルバム『ゲトー・ラヴ』（01年）、２ndアルバム『スティル・ゲトー』（01年）とキャリアを順調に積み、06年にはデビュー作から続くゲトー３部作の最終編となる『ゲトー・クラシックス』をリリース。さまざまなソウル・クラシックを引用した楽曲作りも単なる懐古趣味ではなく、いまの時代の中でしっかり息づかせることに成功させ、マーヴィン・ゲイ、ルーサー・ヴァンドロス、テディ・ペンダーグラス、ダニー・ハザウェイといった偉大な先達たちへの敬意と、その意志を受け継ぐという決意のあらわれを感じさせる名盤だ。
