クリスチャン・デスは「ゴシック」というレッテルを毛嫌いするあまり、かつては強烈な反カトリック集団であったが、結果的にはゴシック界で最も洗練されたカトリック・バンドとして落ち着いている。
最初の２枚のアルバムはジャームスのようなサウンドだったが、しかし、アルバム『Ashes』までバンドはメンバー・チェンジとサウンド改革を積極的に行った。詞は、より宗教的苦悩に焦点を当て、サウンドはオリエンタルからクラシック、そしてアンビエントな域まで達した。彼らの音楽は宗教的歓喜と不道徳を交互に表現し、リスナーを非日常的な世界へと導くといえるだろう。——また、90年代に入るとバンドに再び変化が訪れ、ボンデージ・クラブに似合うようなシンセサイザー指向の音楽へと乗りかえている。
