The Missionザ・ミッション
元デッド・オア・アライヴ、シスター・オブ・マーシーのギタリストであったウェイン・ハッセイを中心に結成。86年にアルバム『ゴッズ・オウン・メディシン』でデビューし、全英チャート14位と健闘する。当時はゴシック色が前面に出たサウンドを志向していたが、88年の２nd『チルドレン』ではプロデューサーとして元レッド・ツェッペリンのジョン・ポール・ジョーンズを迎え、ブリティッシュ・ハードロック・サウンドを志す。結果、ゴス／ポジティヴ・パンク特有の耽美的なヴォーカルと、エッジの効いたロック・サウンドがからみ合う、新しいタイプのハードロックが誕生した。この時期が彼らの絶頂期であり、名実ともにイギリスを代表するロック・バンドとなった。その後、相次ぐメンバーの脱退により徐々に活動が停滞していき、96年いったん休止に追い込まれる。しかし、98年にはザ・ミッションUKとして復活。かつての栄光はすでにないが、依然活動中。
