    イル・ディーヴォは、彼らのエグゼクティヴ・プロデューサーであるサイモン・コーウェルがP.ドミンゴ、J.カレーラス、L.パヴァロッティの３大テノールの歌声にヒントを得て作り上げたグループ。メンバーは、世界各国から優秀な人材を求めオーディションによって選ばれた、アメリカ、フランス、スイス、スペイン出身という国際色豊かな４人が揃った。

    04年イギリスでデビューアルバム『IL DIVO』をリリース。全英チャート初登場１位に輝き、発売から４ヶ月経ってもTOP 30内にチャートインし続けるという爆発的なヒットを記録した。この大成功を背景にヨーロッパ、アジア、北米、日本などでデビュー。25ヵ国以上でトップ５入りを記録する。

    翌05年にリリースされた２ndアルバム『ANCORA』(邦題：アンコール)でも、その勢いはとどまるところを知らず、06年に北米でリリースされると見事全米総合チャートのNo.１を獲得した。そして06年、３rdアルバム『SIEMPRE』（邦題：オールウェイズ-SIEMPRE-）をリリース。これまでのアルバム・トータル・セールスは2,200万枚以上を記録している。

    07年１月に初来日公演が実現し大成功をおさめたが、同年のワールド・ツアー後から暫くの間、表舞台から遠ざかっていた彼ら。活動再開が待たれていたが、遂に08年11月、約１年の充電期間を経て２年ぶりの４thアルバム『プロミス』をリリース。翌09年２月からは待望のワールド・ツアーをスタートさせた。９月には来日公演も行われる。
