ヴァッサー・クレメンツはブルーグラスの世界を代表する革新的なフィドル・プレイヤーのひとりだった。50年代の初頭に偉大な演奏家、ビル・モンローのバックでキャリアをスタートさせたクレメンツは、やがて自分が本当にやりたいのはもう少し違うタイプの音楽だということに気づき、さまざまなスタイルや要素を積極的に取り入れるようになっていった。そして、ジャズとカントリーを融合させるという実験に取り組みながら、40年にわたってその技術に磨きをかけ、もっとも多忙なセッション・ミュージシャンとして知られるまでになったのだ。ハンク・ウィリアムスやヴィンス・ギル、ボニー・レイット、ポール・マッカートニーなどのアルバムでクレメンツの素晴らしい演奏を聴くことができるが、そういった人たちばかりでなく、なんとあのモンキーズのバックも手がけている。
