    The Strikeザ・ストライク

    彼らの時代錯誤的なルックスとサウンドといったらタダモノではない。男２人（g&voとdr）はボタンダウン・シャツの裾を細いズボンに入れ、過激な政治思想をもった万年学生風。女ベーシストは、まるでジャムのおっかけのごとくモッズ・スタイルだ。で、音の方はというと、これまた70年代初期パンクを継承する味ある稚拙さ（笑）とシンプルかつアグレッシヴなビート感——そして、ことさらにノスタルジーを煽るクラリネットの味つけ……という具合なのである。当時のロンドン周辺のシーンを確実に意識してるであろう全体の雰囲気は微笑ましくもあり、なおかつ痛快ですらある。
    おまけにロンドンのバンドかと思いきや、意外にもシカゴ出身。確かにその出自を考えると一筋縄ではいかない感じもする。なおかつ、ストライクという名前も妙にそれらしく秀逸。また、「Shots Heard 'Round The World」のレトロ感あふれるクリップを拝めば、確信犯というより純粋に“天然”であることがわかるはずだ。
