    The Shamenザ・シェイメン

    インディ・ロックにアシッド・ハウスの覚醒作用を注入し、90年代初頭のUKダンス・シーンで大成功を収めたシェイメン。
    85年の結成当初は、ギター・サウンドを主軸としたサイケデリック・ロックを指向。しかし、87年から88年にかけてイギリス全土で巻き起こったアシッド・ハウス・ブームの大波を受け、シカゴ・ハウスのオリジネイター、Bam Bamとのコラボレーション・シングル「Transcendental」をリリース。次第にエレクトロニック・ダンスへの傾倒をみせ、『En-Tact』（90年）を特大ヒットへと導いた。91年、オリジナル・メンバーのウィル・シノットが溺死するという不慮に見舞われ、活動休止に追い込まれたが、「L.S.I.」（92年）にて復活を遂げ、その後も「Ebeneezer Goode」（92年）、『Boss Drum』（92年）、『Different Drum』（94年）といった傑作を発表。DJでもある中心メンバーのミスター・Cは、ソロ名義でも活動を展開し、自らのレーベル＜Plink Plonk＞を運営。テック・ハウスの勃興にも甚大な貢献を果たした。
