    ポーリーン・ブラックは文句なしに、素晴らしい声をもつヴォーカリストだ。人を惹きつけるソプラノ・ヴォイスとドラマティックな魅力に恵まれた彼女の歌声は、80年代に巻き起こった２トーン・スカ・シーンに鮮やかな彩りを与えた。
    スペシャルズが単にオールド・スカをアップ・テンポにアレンジするだけに終始し、マッドネスが好んで滑稽なパフォーマンスに興じる——という当時の２トーン・スカ・シーンにおいて、セレクターはさながら"スカ修正主義者"の如く、自らの曲を繰り返し繰り返し慎重に吟味しながらリライトし、メンバーたちは彼女の個性をメロディに鋭く刻み込んでいった。なかでも「Too Much Pressure」「On My Radio」などは必聴ナンバーといえるだろう。
    セールス面ではスペシャルズやマッドネスに及ばないかもしれないが、２トーン・ブームがもたらした最高のバンド——それがセレクターであるということは、間違いないのだ。
