    The Jazz Butcherザ・ジャズ・ブッチャー

    ＜クリエイション＞マニアだったらこの変な名前のバンドが気になってしょうがない時期が一度はあったはずだ。ジャズ・ブッチャー、訳して"ジャズ肉屋"。
    82年にパット・フィッシュを中心にバンド形態で結成されたが、87年からは彼の実質的ソロ・ユニット"ジャズ・ブッチャー・コンスピラシー"として活動を始める。このころデビュー時から在籍していた＜グラス＞を離れ、＜クリエイション＞へ移籍。以降、UKのみならずアメリカやヨーロッパ各地でも一部の熱狂的な支持を受けていたが、95年にアルバム『イルミネイト』をリリースし活動を停止する。
    彼らが奏でるのは麗しいメロディをもったギター・ポップといえるが、ニューウェーヴの真っ只中を通過しているせいか、そのポップ理論は非常にストイックでマニアックなものだ。それゆえ、ジャズ・ブッチャーのサウンドからは"B級っぷり"の妙が全面に感じられるのである。
