    The Honeydogsザ・ハニードッグス

    米国インディー・ロック界の中で、もっとも重要な都市の１つ、ミネソタ州ミネアポリス。出身のバンドは、ハスカー・ドゥ／リプレイスメンツ／ソウル・アサイラム／ジェイホークスと、80〜90年代のアメリカン・ロックを語る上で欠かせない存在ばかりだ。
    ハニードッグスもこの街をベースに活動する５人組で、ドラマーのノア・レヴィは、ジェイホークスやソウル・アサイラムのメンバーを擁する覆面プロジェクト、ゴールデン・スモッグに参加するなど、ミネアポリス・ロック人脈とも関わりが深い。彼らは、パワーポップ寄りのルーツ・ロック・サウンドをベースに、オルガンやストリングスを効果的に導入し、ウェットなメロディを紡ぎ出していく。曲調もカントリー・ロックからサイケデリックまで多彩でありながら八方美人にならず、バンドの骨太な演奏に支えられ、１本筋の通ったものに仕上げられている。
    96年にインディーズよりデビューし、あのアル・クーパーがゲスト参加したアルバム『Seen A Ghost』（97年）でメジャー・デビューを果たすものの、これ１枚きりでインディーズ落ち。しかし、現在も精力的に活動中で、01年には久しぶりのニュー・アルバム『Here's Luck』を発表している。
