    60年代後期に結成されたファウンデーションズは、当時独自の音楽をもたなかったイギリスに、ポップとR＆Bのソウルフルな融合をもたらし、商業的にも成功をおさめた。メンバーは、イギリス人と西インドのミュージシャンである。67年に「ベイビー・ナウ・ザット・アイヴ・ファウンド・ユー」がイギリスでNo.1大ヒット、アメリカでも69年には「ビルド・ミー・アップ・バターカップ」がチャートの１位を獲得している。98年の大ヒット・コメディ映画『メリーに首ったけ』のサントラに「ベイビー・ナウ・ザット・アイヴ・ファウンド・ユー」が使われたことから、ファウンデーションズの魅力が再発見されているようだ。
