    The Buckinghamsザ・バッキンガムス

    ザ・センチュリーズ、ザ・パルセイションズを前身とするザ・バッキンガムス。彼らは、美しいヴォーカル＆ハーモニー／きらびやかなメロディを活かしたソフト・ロック・サウンドに、ぶ厚いホーン・セクションを導入したスタイルを呈示。そして、66年に発表された「カインド・オブ・ア・ドラッグ」が全米第１位を獲得する。このサウンド・アプローチはプロデューサー、ジェイムズ・ウィリアム・ガルシオの手腕によるところが大きく、彼なくしてブラス・ロック・バンドの元祖とも言える、ザ・バッキンガムスの革新的な音世界は誕生しなかったであろう。翌67年には「マーシー・マーシー・マーシー」が大ヒットを記録している。
    だが、その栄光は長くは続かなかった。68年、新プロデューサーとしてジミー・ウィズナー、ジェリー・ロスを迎えた『In One Ear And Gone Tomorrow』をリリースするも、不発。これを最後に、60年代を象徴するグループの一つであったザ・バッキンガムスの歴史に幕が降ろされたのである。
