    The Beautiful Southザ・ビューティフル・サウス

    全英トップにも輝いた伝説的ギター・ポップ・バンド、ハウスマーティンズ解散後（88年）、ノーマン・クック（現ファットボーイ・スリム）はビーツ・インターナショナルを、ポール・ヒートンとデイヴ・ヘミングウェイはビューティフル・サウスを結成する。
    決して裏切ることのない麗しの歌メロとピアノ／ホーン／ストリングを贅沢に取り入れたドラマ性、そして、ユーモアあふれるリリック——そういった要素が満載の彼らのギター・ソングスは、バート・バカラックやポール・マッカートニーなどの先達ポップ職人にも通じる安心感をもって聴くことができる。ブルー・アイド・ソウル風なヒートンのヴォーカルに加え、ブリアナ・コリガンや彼女の脱退後（92年）加入したジャクリーヌ・アボットによる心温まる女性ヴォーカルもビューティフル・サウスの醍醐味である。
    95年にはベスト・アルバム『ザ・ベスト・オブ・ビューティフル・サウス』を発表。決して色褪せることのない彼らの珠玉のポップ・ソングスは、いつでも聴く者を優しく包んでくれる。
