UKアンダーグラウンド・クラブ・シーンの新たな潮流、ダブ・ステップ。そのなかでも最も可能性を秘めたアーティストとして注目されているのが若干20歳のクリエイター、スクリームだ。90年代から現在までを青春として過ごし、ジャングル〜ドラムンベースの要素を吸収した、まさに新世代のクリエイターである。デビュー・アルバム『Skream！』では、深く沈みこむような重低音がフロアを震撼させダブステップ・アンセムと化している「Midnight Request Line」をはじめ、独自のセンスが開花。ラガ風のMCも導入するなど、ルーツ・レゲエへの接近も感じられる傑作だ。その異形のビートは、全く新しい感覚を聴き手にもたらすことだろう。
