    レッド・ノーヴォの活躍により、マリンバとビブラフォンはジャズ楽器としての地位を確立することが出来た。これ以外にも彼は、ジャズ・ヴォーカル・アレンジの方法論を構築する一端を担い、またクール・ジャズの礎を築き、そしてスウィング、バップ、クールといったそれぞれのムーヴメントを通じて主要な音楽家のひとりであり続けた。デューク・エリントンはノーヴォのビッグ・バンドが大好きだったし、トリオ作品も最高に素晴らしい（彼はチャーリー・ミンガスに郵便局の仕事を辞めてジャズの世界へ戻るように説得し、このトリオに参加させたのだ！）。ノーヴォの作品はヴォーカリストにとってはとりわけ馴染みやすく、ミルドレッド・ベイリー（彼の１番目の妻）、メル・トーメ、ダイナ・ショア、そしてフランク・シナトラと一緒に行ったレコーディングはどれも秀逸である。
