    ブルースという枠のなかにソウルやレゲエ、ジャズ、ファンク、ロックなどの要素を自由に取り込んでいったルーサー・アリスンを「ブルース界のジミ・ヘンドリックス」という言葉で評する人は少なくない。彼はやはりヘンドリックスと同じように、深遠なギターの世界に全身全霊で入り込み、４時間以上もステージに立ちつづけることがあった。子供のころは教会でオルガンを弾いたりゴスペルを歌っていたというアリスンは、やがて父親のラジオから流れてくるグランド・オール・オープリーやB.B.キングの音楽に興味を持ちはじめ、10代半ばには地元のブルース・クラブに出入りするようになっていく。18歳の時、チャールズ・ウォーターズ（マディの息子）と知り合った彼は、それがきっかけでマディやエルモア・ジェイムス、ハウリン・ウルフといった巨人たちと共演するという、お金では買えないような貴重な音楽修行を積むこととなった。
