    Lightnin' Rodライトニン・ロッド

    一世を風靡した74年作『ハスラーズ・コンヴェンション』はギャングスタ・ラップの前身的作品だった。クール＆ザ・ギャングやバーナード・パーディーらが演出するファンキーなサウンドに乗せ、元ザ・ラスト・ポエッツのジャラルがハードなアヴァンギャルド・ライムを浴びせかけてくる。そこにあるのはスラム街の底を這いずりまわる男の話だ。プリンス・ポールの99年作『プリンス・アマング・シーヴズ』を思い出すといいが、まるで映画のドラマティックなシーンのような体制で、曲と曲がスムーズに紡がれていく。その複雑なスコアは完成から30年が経過してもなお衝撃的で、ビースティー・ボーイズやネイティヴ・タンなどのファンも惹きつけている。ヒップホップにハマっている人なら誰でも一度はチェックすべき作品／アーティストである。
