    リー・ドーシーが世に送り出した名曲の数々は、ニューオーリンズR＆Bのハイライトといってもいいだろう。初期の「ヤー・ヤー」「ド・レ・ミ」などのノヴェルティ・ソング、そして65年以降のアラン・トゥーサンが全面バック・アップした「ライド・ユア・ポニー」「ホーリー・カウ」などのユルユルなファンキー・チューンなど、どのナンバーもニューオーリンズR＆Bの楽しさ、素晴らしさを教えてくれる。特にミーターズがバックを担当した『イエス・ウィ・キャン』（70年）は名作中の名作。ユーモラスな語り口のなかにも逞しい気骨をイメージさせるドーシーのヴォーカル・ワークと、ソリッドなファンク・サウンドが絡み合い、同時代的にも最高水準のR＆Bアルバムが仕上げられている。この作品を聴いたロビー・ロバートソンがアラン・トゥーサンにホーン・アレンジを依頼した話は有名だし、さらにポインター・シスターズがその後「イエス・ウィ・キャン」をカヴァー・ヒットさせたことも記憶に鮮明だ。
