    Jack Kerouacジャック・ケルアック

    ジャック・ケルアックは、ウィリアム・S・バロウズ、アレン・ギンズバーグと共に、50年代アメリカで勃興したビート・ジェネレーション（ビートニクとも呼ばれる）を代表する作家として知られる。彼の『路上』（57年）、『地下街の人びと』（58年）を始めとする著作は、自らのアメリカ各地での放浪生活体験を通して、物質文明や権威主義からの逃避と反抗を啓示し、多くの若者を人間の根源的な姿へと立ち返らせた。60年代、その精神を継承するヒッピー・ジェネレーションが生まれ、サイケデリック・ムーヴメントへと発展。当時から現在にかけて活躍したすべてのロック・ミュージシャンは、ビートニクからの恩恵を授かったといっても過言ではない。ロックやパンクの思想はビートニクに必ず帰結するのだ。
    ドアーズの元メンバー、レイ・マンザレクは語っている——「もし、ジム・モリソンが『路上』を読んでいなければドアーズは結成されなかっただろう」。
