スリリングな展開、錯綜する伏線、驚愕のラスト——ここまでいくとAORというより、プログレか!? その高度な音楽性からミュージシャンズ・ミュージシャンと称えられるジノ・ヴァネリ、イタリア系のカナダ人だ。
ハーブ・アルバートをプロデュースに迎え、R&Bにブラジル音楽を巧みにブレンドした１stから、カナダの大地を思わせるスケールの大きな作風の『パワフル・ピープル』まで、徐々に知名度を上げていったヴァネリ。その音楽性の完成をみるのが６th『ブラザー・トゥ・ブラザー』（78年）だろう。シンセサイザー中心のアンサンブルで、ジャズ〜フュージョン的サウンドにアプローチ。ドラマチックな構成に精緻なプロダクションもクどくなく、ポップにまとめる職人技も冴えまくった。ヴァネリ自身のヴォーカルも洗練されていながらエネルギッシュ！ 名バラード「アイ・ジャスト・ワナ・ストップ」の大ヒットを生むことになる。続く『ナイトウォーカー』（81年）も全くスキのないAORの傑作。
90年代に一時シーンから姿を消すが、その後復活。今もハイ・クオリティな作品を生み出し続けている。
