    David Coverdaleデヴィッド・カヴァーデイル

    日本のファン共通の"デビカバ"という愛称、そして特に"めちゃ美形"というわけでもないルックス。なのに彼がセクシーなヴォーカリストとして位置づけられてきたのは、唄ってる時の絶妙な息づかいや声の質感、そしてステージ・パフォーマンスが振りまく濃ゆいフェロモンゆえだろう。
    74年に、その名を世界に知らしめるには充分すぎるほどのビッグ・ネーム、ディープ・パープルに加入し、アルバム『Burn』をレコーディング。数年後にこのバンドを脱退した彼は、ソロ・プロジェクトとしてのホワイトスネイクを結成する。ブルージーな要素を含んだハード・ロック・サウンドを軸としたこのバンドには、コージー・パウエルやニール・マーレイ、ジョン・サイクスといった名だたるミュージシャンが入れ替わり立ち替わり参加。あまりにメンバー・チェンジが激しく、87年のアルバム『サーペンスアルバス』が全米最高２位を獲得し成功を収めたにも拘らずカヴァーデイル独りになった時期もあったが、94年に元ラットのウォーレン・デ・マルティーニが参加してのリユニオンを実現させるなど、結果的には長く続く。
    その間、93年にジミー・ペイジとCoverdale/Pageを結成。"ほとんどレッド・ツェッペリン" なサウンドを、ロバート・プラントを彷彿させるヴォーカリゼイションで違和感なく歌い上げてしまっていた。
    00年にはソロ・アルバム『Into the Light』をリリース。年相応に往年の激しさは薄れ、楽曲的な聴き易さも増したが、その声本来の魅力は依然、健在である。
