    イギリスの港湾都市ブリストル出身、チェリストとしてオーケストラにも在籍していたと言う現在25歳のDJ／プロデューサー兼、ヴォーカリスト。幼少期をロンドンはハートフォードシャーで過ごした彼は、オーケストラや合唱隊でクラシックの教育を受けていたが、10歳の時に出会ったミックス・テープでドラムンベース、そしてN.W.A.の名盤『Straight Outta Compton』でヒップホップの洗礼を受け、18歳まではクラシックとストリート・ミュージックを行き来する音楽的二重生活を送っていたと言う。ドラムンベースのトラック・メイカー、Shy FXのもとでトラック・メイクを学んだ彼は、ビート・ミュージックへの更なる思いを募らせ、ロンドンの大学を中退。ロニ・サイズに象徴されるドラムンベース・シーンを育んできたブリストルに移住し、その音楽キャリアを本格的にスタートさせた。そこで彼は、SirplusやKelzといったMC、はたまたロニ・サイズやダイといったフル・サイクル・クルーと交流を深め、後にデビュー・シングルとして06年にリリースされる「ソー・グッド・トゥデイ」を皮切りに、自宅のベッド・ルームで曲制作を開始する。
    そんな折、＜トーキング・ラウド＞以来の新レーベル＜ブラウンズウッド・レコーディングス＞を立ち上げようとするジャイルス・ピーターソンがベンの音楽を耳にし、世界各国で放送されている自身のラジオ番組で紹介。この「So Good Today」は、正式なリリースを待たずして05年の＜Worldwide Awards＞で最優秀シングル５位に選ばれ、その年の“最もセクシーなダンス・フロア・アンセム”となり、ジャイルスはベンを“ポップとソウルのクロスオーヴァーを最良の形で体現するアーティスト”と絶賛した。その後「ナッシング・エルス」、「ゲット・クローサー」と立て続けにシングルをリリースし、ベン自身の幅の広い音楽性を披露させると、07年には＜ブラウンズウッド・レコーディングス＞の第一弾アルバムとして待望のファースト・アルバム『ウェルカム・トゥ・ザ・ベスト・イヤーズ・オブ・ユア・ライフ』をリリースした。
