    ジャンプ・ブルース界きってのシャウター！　聴いてるこっちが吹き飛ばされそうになる圧倒的な声量、豪快な歌いっぷりには、男のもつ"野生"が、否が応にも刺激される。またルックスの良さもピカイチで、さぞや女性を泣かせたのだろう、と邪推の１つもしたくなるような貴公子ぶり。
    ラッキー・ミリンダー楽団の専属歌手としてキャリアをスタートさせたハリスは、45年に独立し、47年に＜キング＞と契約。ロイ・ブラウンのカヴァー「Good Rockin' Tonight」をきっかけに黄金時代を迎える。重厚なホーン・セクションに呼応する迫力満点の歌唱は、大衆の心をワシ掴みにし、以降「All She Wants to Do Is Rock」「I Like My Baby's Pudding」「Good Morning Judge」などのヒットを連発した。
    しかし50年代後半ともなると、押し寄せるロックンロールの波に乗ることができず、衰退の一途を辿る。67年に再起を図るものの、69年に他界。そのストロング・スタイルの歌唱はジェイムス・ブラウンなどに受け継がれることとなる。
