    80〜90年代にかけてUKヒット・チャートを総ナメにした４人組、ウェット・ウェット・ウェット。ここ日本でもFMラジオ局を中心にヘヴィ・ローテーションされた「ラヴ・イズ・オール・アラウンド」（トロッグズのカヴァー・ナンバー）を耳にしたことのある人は多いかと思う。そもそも単なるポップ・グループと思われがちなバンドではあるが、その音楽志向性において、イギリス人のUSブラック・ミュージック狂っぷりを存分に反映させていた。＜HI＞レーベルのサウンド・カラーに憧れてメンフィス録音を敢行したり、ハモンド・オルガンやクラヴィネットなどの楽器を導入したりと、そこかしこでソウル〜R＆Bの匂いを嗅ぎ取ることができる。またスウィートかつ濡れたブルー・アイド・ソウルは、洗練美の極みだ。食わず嫌いなんかもったいないですよ、みなさん。
