    スカタライツのオリジナル・メンバーで、テナー・サックス・プレイヤー。骨太でクールなスタイルが持ち味だ。ジャズ、R&Bはもとより、カリブ諸国のエスニック・ミュージックやジャマイカの宗教音楽にも造詣が深く、スカの誕生のキーマンとなった１人。スカタライツ時代には何千というレコーディングに参加し、ボブ・マーリィ＆ウェイラーズらシンガーのバックを務める傍ら、バンド名義のインストゥルメンタルも数多くレコーディングした。当時のベストを集めたアルバム『Ska Authentic』は、全てのスカ・ファンからベストにチョイスされる名盤として今でも世界中で愛されている。65年にスカタライツが空中分解した後は、＜トレジャー・アイル＞レーベルに移り、スーパーソニックスを結成。アルトン・エリス、テクニークスといった、スカ〜ロックステディ期の名シンガーを支えた。
    また、バニー・リーやジョー・ギブスといった他のレーベルへの録音も頻繁に行われ、ルーツ・レゲエ全盛期には、ヤビー・ユーのレーベルからアルバム『Blazing Horns』をリリース。トランペッターのボビー・エリスと組んだ本作は、その卓越したクオリティの高さとルーツ・レゲエをディープに見据えた内容から、ルーツ史に残るインストゥルメンタル・アルバムとして評価が高い。
    また70年代には、アグロヴェーターズ、レボルーショナリーズといったスタジオ・バンドにも参加。当時のヒット曲のバックには、ほとんどと言っていいほどマクックのプレイが隠れているのだ。
