    Tommy Dorseyトミー・ドーシー

    35年から53年の間に、トミー・ドーシー率いるビッグバンドはなんと200曲近いシングル・ヒットを飛ばした。スウィング全盛の頃、ミュージック・シーンにはジャズ・バンドやダンス・バンドの他にスウィート・バンドというのもあった。ドーシーのバンドは一流の、これ以上はないというほど甘ったるいダンス・バンドであると同時に、まるで大リーグの強打者、今は亡きロジャー・マリスのようにスウィングする力量を持っていた。トロンボーン奏者のドーシーは途方もないほど素晴らしいブレス・コントロールの持ち主で、それはジャズ・ミュージシャンたちばかりでなく、彼の楽団のスター歌手だった若きフランク・シナトラも参考にするほどだった。ドーシーのビッグバンドにはフランク・シナトラの他、バディ・リッチやジョー・スタッフォードらが40年代初頭に在籍していた。いずれのアーティストもその後ひとり立ちして大成功を収めた、そうそうたるメンバーだ。
