    The Dream Syndicateザ・ドリーム・シンジケイト

    80年代インディーズ・ムーヴメントの火つけ役となったペイズリー・アンダーグラウンド。L.A.を中心に勃興したネオ・サイケデリック現象で、81年に結成されたドリーム・シンジケートはその看板といっていい。彼らが呈示した、ニール・ヤングやヴェルヴェット・アンダーグラウンドから影響を受けたノイズ・ギターにカントリーやフォークといったルーツ・エッセンスを垂らし込んだ音楽性は、プラスティックなポップスが席捲していたシーンのなかで新鮮に響き渡った。80年代後半の解散までにリリースされたオリジナル・アルバムは４枚と少ないが、後のパワーポップやオルタナ勢に与えた影響は見逃せないものがある。
    なお、中心メンバーだったスティーヴ・ウィンは現在もシンガー・ソングライターとして活動しており、00年には来日も果たした。
