アホ・アホ・ロック番長テッド・ニュージェント。探検好きが嵩じて、ライヴに大遅刻。滞在先のニュー・ギニアからオーディエンスの待つ会場へ直接ヘリで乗りつけた——という、まことしやかな伝説をもつ。腕がギターになってたり、ギターの先っちょが銃になってたりする非常に偏差値の低いジャケットゆえ、ついつい敬遠してしまいがちなアーティストであることは確か。また、邦タイトルもそんな調子で、「炎の突撃隊」「命がけのロックンロール」「野獣地帯」「傷だらけの野獣」とヤリタイ放題……。
人気ガレージ・ロック・バンド、アンボイ・デュークスのメンバーとして60年代後半にデビュー。70年代からはソロとして、『閃光のハードロック』『ハード・ギター爆撃機』など、アメリカン・ハードロックの真髄をいくワイルド＆フーリッシュな快作を数多くリリースしている。89年には、元スティクスのトミー・ショウ、元ナイト・レンジャーのジャック・ブレイズと共に、ダム・ヤンキーズを結成。若いロック・ファンの支持をも獲得していった。
