“ミスター・ロマンティック”ことスティーヴン・ビショップ。76年にリリースしたデビュー・アルバム『ケアレス』には、アート・ガーファンクル／ラリー・カールトン／エリック・クラプトンといった錚々たるミュージシャンが大挙し、メロウ＆スムージーな名盤が作り出された。そのアルバムからシングル・カットされた「オン・アンド・オン」のヒットにより、彼の人気は決定づけられたといえよう。
そして78年、AOR史上もっともロマンティックなアルバム『水色の手帖』を発表。甘くまろやかなヴォーカリゼーション、メランコリックなメロディ、情感に満ちたストリングス・アレンジの３要素が、シックかつエスプリの効いた音世界を生み出した。
