    60sソウル・フレイヴァーを、90sネオアコ／ギターポップというフィールドのなかで、カット＆ペースト的手法を用いつつ見事に開花させたグループ、それがスペアミントである。99年にリリースされた１stアルバム『ウィーク・アウェイ』は、本当にステキな作品だった。聴衆は何度「ウィーク・アウェイ」で胸をキュンとさせ、「トリップ・イントゥ・スペース」で踊り狂ったことか。まさしく、現代に生きるギターポップ・ファンにとってのアンセムといえよう。そんな彼らは、00年には早くも２nd『オクラホマ！』を世に送り出した。切ない曲調を湛えた同作も、巷では名作と謳われている。さらに『ディフレント・ライフタイム』（01年）、『マイ・ミッシング・デイズ』（03年）、『レオパード＆アザー・ストーリーズ』（04年）と、続々と名作を連発。まったく驚異的なクリエイティヴィティである。
