    デビュー・アルバム『ステディ・オン』（89年）がグラミー賞に輝いているものの、日本ではなぜか認知度の低いショーン・コルヴィン。彼女はスザンヌ・ヴェガのバック・ヴォーカルを経て、31歳でデビューを果たした、言わば遅咲きのシンガー・ソングライターである。
    そんなコルヴィンはすべてにおいて"地味"——マイ・ペースでリリースされるオリジナル・アルバムは、99年にいたるまでわずか３枚。切なげに鳴り響くフォーキーなサウンドにのせ、淡々と歌い上げられる内容も、平凡な悩み／平凡な日常／平凡な人生についてのものばかりだ。素朴でひなびた哀愁に包まれた『アー・フュー・スモール・リペアーズ』（96年）は、そんな彼女のアーティスト性をもっとも強調した作品と言えるだろう。
