    ルイジアナ出身ながら50年代よりウエスト・コーストで活動し始め、ロンサム・サンダウンやロング・ジョン・ハンターのサイド・ギタリストとして活動。一時期はクリフトン・シェリエのザディコ・バンドに在籍していたこともあるという。
    ソロ・アーティストとしては、50年代後半あたりからちょこちょこと録音していたが、その名を知らしめたのは、１stアルバム『The Bottom Of The Top』（73年）によってである。＜プレイボーイ＞（あのウサギのやつです）からリリースされたこの作品は、サム・クックのカヴァー／ロッキン・ブルース／ライトニン・ホプキンス調の弾き語り……などヴァラエティに富んだ内容を、ウォーカーの骨太な歌と泥臭いギターが１本筋を通すタフな仕上がり。70年代モダン・ブルースを代表する１枚に数えられる傑作だ。
    その後も80〜90年代とコンスタントにアルバムを発表し、現役ブルース・マンの重鎮として活躍。97年には来日を果たし、日本のブルース・ファンを唸らせた。
