N.Y.グリニッチ・ヴィレッジ——60年代後半、この場所にはさまざまなアーティストが吸い寄せられてきた。画家／ビートニク詩人／フォーク・シンガーなど感性の研ぎ澄まされた人々が集う中、ピーター・ゴールウェイはフィフス・アヴェニュー・バンドを誕生させる。ルーツ・ロックをベースに、ジャズやボサノヴァを取り入れ洗練されたサウンドは、当時の空気を真空パック。木漏れ陽のような温もりあるナンバーの数々は、商業的には失敗に終わったが多くの人に愛された。
その後ゴールウェイはL.A.へ移り住み、オハイオ・ノックスでアルバム（実質的１stソロ作とされている）を発表後、72年には自らの名を冠したアルバムをリリース。ケニー・アルトマン／ダニー・クーチ／ポール・ハリスなど旧友を迎え制作されたこの作品は、アットホームな雰囲気に包まれたものとなった。渋みの効いた歌声、ナチュラルな響きをもたらすフォーキー・サウンド、清らかなコーラス——よりパーソナルな味わいをもった音楽を届けてくれたのである。
