    ピート・シーガーは、バンジョーによるフォーク・ソングや労働者階級に関する社会問題を扱った歌詞で知られていた。彼のトレードマークである５弦のバンジョーの演奏は、ありとあらゆるカントリー界の流行歌手に影響を与えたのだ。
    30年代の終わりにかけて、偉大なるウディ・ガスリーを始めとするアーティストたちと共に、アルマナック・シンガーズを結成。その目的は労働組合の結成推進とファシズム打倒だった。そして40年代末にはフォーク・グループ、ウィーヴァーズを結成。「Tzena, Tzena, Tzena」、レッドベリーの「Goodnight Irene」、「On Top of Old Smokey」など一連のヒット曲を飛ばすが、当時のマッカーシー上院議員による"赤狩り"のあおりでライヴ演奏の依頼やレコード契約が突如来なくなってしまった。——だがしかし、ピート・シーガーの作品はフォーク・ミュージック・ファンのみならず、「We Shall Overcome」「If I Had a Hammer」、バーズがカヴァーした「ターン・ターン・ターン」などの曲に感銘を受けたリスナーたちの中に、今も生き続けている。
