    近年アメリカのシーンを席捲しているヘヴィ・ロック。大雑把に分けるとこのヘヴィ・ロックにも二通りあって、ひとつはリンプ・ビズキットに代表される“ラップ＋ヘヴィメタ”のいわゆるミクスチャー、もうひとつがクリードに代表されるグランジが重量感を増した感じのもの。——パパ・ローチはその二つのちょうど中心に位置するバンドである。
    93年に結成された彼らは精力的なツアー敢行によりインディー・シーンで徐々に人気を博し、00年に１stアルバム『インフェスト』でメジャー・デビュー。これが、全米チャート上位に輝き、プラチナム・ディスクを獲得した。
    ラップによるアッパーな曲も、叙情的な一大ハードロック・ソングも、怒りの爆発を感じさせる直情的な歌いまわしで、キッズの鬱積した欲求を代弁。そして、ステップ・ワークの巧いヘヴィ級ボクサーのように、軽快さと重量感をもったサウンドで聴く者の身体を揺さぶるのだ。
