    アイドル戦国時代の様相を呈する米ミュージック・シーンに、また１つのグループが誕生した。メンバー選出から結成までを克明にドキュメントするアメリカ版『ASAYAN』とでもいうべきオーディション番組『メイキング・ザ・バンド』より登場した５人組、O-Town。１stアルバム『O-Town』（01年）は、ソングライターにデスモンド・チャイルドやダイアン・ウォーレンといった売れっ子が名を連ね、エッジとフックの効いたR&Bフレイヴァー溢れるティーン・ポップが並ぶ。メンバー個々のキャラクターを打ち出しながらも、息のあったハーモニーを聴かせ、単なる寄せ集めではないことを証明。超美形……ではなく、“隣のお兄さん”風なルックスも親しみを呼ぶだろう。
