    New York Voicesニューヨーク・ヴォイセス

    86年夏、N.Y.のイサカ大学に通っていた学生数名が演奏活動を開始。６人のシンガーと７人の器楽奏者という構成で、モントレー・ジャズ・フェスティヴァルを始めとするアメリカやヨーロッパのイベントで成功を収めていた。翌年、６人のうちダーモン・ミーダー、ピーター・エルドリッジ、キム・ナザリアンとキャプリース・フォックスの４人がサラ・クリーガーとN.Y.で合流し、"ニューヨーク・ヴォイセス"は結成された。
    88年、N.Y.のタウンホールで初コンサートを開くと、すぐさま地元で人気を集め、89年には＜GRP＞との契約に成功。その後メンバー交替・一時活動休止などを経てはいるが、カルテットとして活動を続行させている。
    レイ・ブラウン、ジョシュア・レッドマン、カウント・ベイシー・オーケストラ、ジム・ホール、ジョージ・ベンソンといったアーティストのレコーディング参加やライヴ・セッションで腕を磨きながら、97年には＜RCAビクター＞と契約。久々にニューヨーク・ヴォイセス名義でレコーディングを再開させた。また彼らはグループ活動の傍ら、メンバーそれぞれが作曲／アレンジ活動なども行っており、ソロ活動も展開している。
    作品やスタイルはジャズからの影響が最も強いが、ポップス／R&B／クラシック／ワールド・ミュージック……と音楽性の幅は広く、多彩なジャンルを洗練されたアレンジで見事に調合している点と余裕のコーラス・ワークが大きな魅力だろう。
